Literacy Nonfiction Reading Monday Good nonfiction readers read pictures and words. -Watch the mini-lesson video: Lesson 9 Nonfiction Read Pictures and Words -Be prepared to show a page with pictures without captions in one of your nonfiction books. At the 9:30 Zoom conference tell me how you read the pictures and where in the text you learned more about the picture. -If you are unable to Zoom at that time, write about the picture in SeeSaw. Complete assigned lessons by Friday. Writing Adjectives and paragraph writing Good writers use adjectives to spice up their writing. Monday -Watch the read aloud video: Many Luscious Lollipops -Remember that adjectives describe nouns. -Do "Identifying nouns, adjectives and verbs." on SeeSaw. Tuesday -Using the following sentence, add adjectives to make it more interesting. Share at 9:30 Zoom conference. The cat found a mouse in the house. -Make a brainstorming web to write a paragraph telling about your bedroom. Wednesday -Take a selfie on SeeSaw. Then, write words phrases to describe you in SeeSaw Notes. What color are your clothes? brown shoes, blue plaid shirt, etc. What color are your eyes? blue What color, length, style is your hair? long, blond, curly hair What shape is your face, nose, ears, etc? oval face, long nose What is your personality? shy, funny, caring Thursday -Write a rough draft in SeeSaw Notes using your web. -Remember to use capital letters, punctuation, and indent your paragraph. -Use the parts of a paragraph to write it. I will edit and return to you. Friday -Write your final draft of your bedroom piece on SeeSaw Notes. Literacy Nonfiction text Monday Nonfiction readers know train their minds to pick out the topic sentence. -Watch the mini-lesson video: Lesson 4 - Nonfiction Topic Sentence -We will find the topic sentence in paragraphs at the 9:30 Zoom conference. -Go on SeeSaw and do "What's the Main Idea?" Tuesday Transitional words are like super glue; they hold everything together. -Watch the mini-lesson video: Lesson 5 - Nonfiction Transitional Words -Read a section of one of your nonfiction books. -Be prepared to use your fingers and transitional words to retell what you read. Friday Pictures help us understand nonfiction text. -Watch the mini-lesson video: Lesson 8- Nonfiction Pictures -Be prepared to tell how the pictures in one of your nonfiction books relate to the heading. If you are unable to Zoom, type the same information in a Note on SeeSaw. This is how I will be taking attendance on Friday. You will need to either join me at Zoom or send the picture on SeeSaw. Writing This week you will finish the two paragraphs we have been working on. If you have not finished your rough drafts, you will need to do that. Add a concluding sentence to each of your paragraphs. Remember a concluding sentence wraps up your paragraph. Your concluding and topic sentences should have the same meaning and you might be able to switch them. Take a picture of your rough draft on SeeSaw to send to me. I will edit it. You will need to rewrite it on a piece of notebook paper as your published piece. Take a picture and send it to me on SeeSaw. Your rough draft is due Thursday. Your published piece is due Friday.
